And, because of these\nrepercussions of this infestation and human being the closest species to dogs, there is a question that\narises in your mind-<strong>\u201cCan Heartworms Be\nPassed From Dogs To Human?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As mentioned\nabove, heartworms are transmitted from one infested\ndog to another healthy dog through a mosquito bite. The heartworm larvae called\nmicrofilariae present in the blood are sucked by the mosquitoes when they bite.\nThese microfilariae become infectious in the duration of 14-15 days of their\nstay in the mosquito&#8217;s body. So, when the\nmosquito bites the other healthy pup it transmits those infectious\nmicrofilariae into the body. These\nmicrofilariae then grow-up by feeding on the nutrients in the blood and travel\ntowards the heart.<em>\nMature males being 4-6 inches long and female worms being 10-12 inches long,<\/em> once they reach, they accumulate in\nthe heart and block the blood flow hence causing severe health conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A\nnumber of worms in a\nheart are called a worm burden. Generally, the average number of\nworms in the blood is 15 in an infected dog but the number can reach till 250\nin bizarre cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Increased worm burden may lead to heavy infestations and symptoms like frequent coughing, getting tired after doing mild activities, breathing issues, and heart failure can be observed. Severe infestations with high worm burden can lead to your dog\u2019s health to a fatal condition called caval syndrome. The heart gets filled with heartworms that block the blood supply to the heart resulting in heart failure. Surgical removal of the heartworms is the only option to save the infested dog (Many dogs die because of Caval syndrome even if the surgery is done).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It takes 6-7\nmonths from the day of infection to find out that your pooch is infested by\nheartworms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Cut The Crap. And\nPlease Tell Us Can They Infect Human Or Not?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Well, the good news is, no, heartworm can\u2019t be transmitted from infected dogs to humans and neither mosquito bite can <g class=\"gr_ gr_4 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del\" id=\"4\" data-gr-id=\"4\">infest<\/g> humans with heartworms.
