What is Simparica Trio Flea and Tick Treatment for Dogs?

Simparica Trio is a broad-spectrum parasitic treatment for dogs and puppies from 8 weeks of age, weighing at least 2.8 lbs. The treatment is indicated to prevent heartworm disease caused by Dirofilaria immitis. It also treats and controls gastrointestinal worms like roundworms and hookworms. The treatment further kills adult fleas and treats and prevents flea infestations. Additionally, it treats and controls tick infestations caused by lone star ticks, Gulf Coast ticks, American dog ticks, black-legged ticks, brown dog ticks and Asian longhorned ticks. The treatment also prevents Lyme disease as a direct result of killing black-legged ticks. It caters to dogs of various breeds and sizes.

How does it work?

Simparica Trio features three active ingredients, sarolaner, moxidectin and pyrantel pamoate.

Sarolaner is an acaricide and insecticide belonging to the isoxazoline group. It inhibits the function of the neurotransmitter gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA) receptor and glutamate receptor, and works at the neuromuscular junction in insects. This results in uncontrolled neuromuscular activity leading to the death of parasites.

Moxidectin is an endectocide in the macrocyclic lactone class. It acts by interfering with the chloride channel-mediated neurotransmission in the parasite, leading to its paralysis and death.

Pyrantel pamoate is a nematocide belonging to the tetrahydropyrimidine class. It acts as a depolarizing, neuromuscular-blocking agent in susceptible parasites, causing their paralysis and death or expulsion of the organism.
